N is for No Asset Report

In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the bankruptcy trustee is responsible for reviewing your case and seeing if there are any assets that can be used to pay creditors. In most cases, there are no nonexempt assets (See my previous post on Exemptions for more background) or the assets that are not exempt aren’t worth enough to make it worthwhile for the trustee to sell it. When the trustee determines there is nothing to sell or use to pay creditors, he/she will file a No Asset Report with the bankruptcy court.

The No Asset Report is one of the major stepping stones towards closing your Chapter 7 case. After the No Asset Report is filed, your case will usually finish out in 30-60 days.
